Forced labor refers to situations where individuals are coerced to work through threats, violence, deception, or abuse of power.

Comment

Forced labor is a severe human rights violation and is defined by the International Labour Organization (ILO) under Convention No. 29 as “all work or service which is exacted from any person under the menace of any penalty and for which the said person has not offered himself voluntarily.” Forced labor can include practices such as withholding identity documents and threats of violence. It can be encountered often in global supply chains, and especially in agriculture, mining, construction, and textile manufacturing. For example, a seafood exporter could be exposed for using forced labor aboard fishing vessels, where migrant workers would be trapped at sea without pay and subjected to physical abuse. According to the ILO, more than 80% of forced labor cases occur in the private sector.

Nucená práce je závažným porušením lidských práv a je definována Mezinárodní organizací práce (MOP) v Úmluvě č. 29 jako „veškerá práce nebo služba, která je vyžadována od jakékoli osoby pod hrozbou jakéhokoli trestu a kterou daná osoba nevykonává dobrovolně“. Nucená práce může zahrnovat praktiky, jako je zadržování dokladů totožnosti a vyhrožování násilím. Často se s ní lze setkat v globálních dodavatelských řetězcích, zejména v zemědělství, těžbě, stavebnictví a textilním průmyslu. Například mořské plody vyvážené do zahraničí mohou být vystaveny nucené práci na palubách lodí, kde jsou migrující pracovníci uvězněni na moři bez mzdy a vystaveni fyzickému týrání. Podle ILO se více než 80 % případů nucené práce vyskytuje v soukromém sektoru.
