In finance, rogue traders are individuals employed to conduct financial transactions who make unauthorized trades.
Following disclosure that a rogue trader had accumulated $20 million in losses, ACME’s shares fell to a five-year low.
Such traders are generally hired to enter into transactions that their employers approve. At some point, they begin making trades with their employer’s assets for which they have not been granted approval. Such trades may at times be profitable, which has led some employers at least temporarily to ignore the activity. At other times, their risk-taking may lead to enormous losses for the company, with historical examples ranging up to 4.9 billion euro. Within the UK, the term is also used for deceitful tradesmen.

Ve Spojeném království se termín rogue trader také používá pro nepoctivé obchodníky.
