Swing trading is a medium-term speculative strategy which consists of holding purchased assets (or selling short) over several days or weeks.
After leaving Prospero, I stayed out of the markets for a few months, but then I started swing trading on my own account.
As with other types of speculation, swing traders base their decisions mostly on technical analysis (i.e., information about a stock’s price trend in the market) and less on fundamental analysis to ascertain the value of the underlying company. Swing trading also operates on a longer time scale than such other speculative strategies as day trading and high-frequency trading. Swing traders try to evaluate prevailing medium-term trends on the market and exploit them by buying low and selling high.

Podobně jako u dalších typů spekulace, swingoví obchodníci zakládají svá rozhodnutí spíše na technické analýze (tj. informacích o tom, jak si akcie vede na trhu), než na fundamentální analýze pro stanovení hodnoty podkladové společnosti. Swingové obchodování také probíhá na delším časovém horizontu než další spekulativní strategie jako například denní obchodování nebo vysokofrekvenční obchodování. Swingoví obchodníci se snaží odhadnout převládající střednědobé trendy na trhu a využít je nakupováním nízko a prodáváním vysoko.
