Back pay /

Nesplacená odměna

Business Term of the Day

Definition

The term back pay refers to past wages and/or benefits to which an employee is entitled.

Example sentence

Even nine months after my dismissal, I still had not received any redundancy compensation: all I got was my back pay.

Comment

Back pay is owed when a company misses a payment date or if wages or a salary that intentionally were not paid are awarded to an employee retroactively, such as when a dismissal is declared unlawful by a court or labor regulatory agency. Back pay may also occur due to an accounting error or an employee’s tardiness in submitting necessary paperwork. It is also referred to as back salary or back wages.

Definice
