Clowngrade /

Clowngrade

Business Term of the Day

Definition

Clowngrade is a slang term for an upgrade or downgrade of a rating of a security or a company for reasons considered ridiculous.

Example sentence

Have you seen that clowngrade of Voltic? I get that they don’t have any earnings yet, but that’s just because they’re investing in further development!

Comment

The use of this term is obviously highly subjective. What one analyst considers to be changing a credit rating on valid grounds another may well consider a clowngrade. In addition, the factors considered valid for changing the rating of one security may be seen as inadequate for another security due to other background factors.

Definice
