Regenerative agriculture is focused on restoring soil diversity by using minimum tillage techniques, crop rotation, rotating fields with pastures, integrating compost into the soil, supporting the natural water cycle, using cover crops, and other techniques. A report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that conventional agriculture has accelerated soil degradation and that soils have lost as much as 60% of their original carbon content. Another aim of regenerative agriculture is to help reverse climate change by supporting natural carbon sequestration in soils through restoring carbon-rich organic matter in soils.
